Metra: A Climate Revolution with Songs
Metra is an original musical fiction podcast about how we change the world.
The year is 2043. The world is hot, water is scarce, the weather is unpredictable…and the fossil fuel industry continues to thrive. The wealthy are comfortable in their air-purified, cooled, humidified, superbly hydrated Bubble cities. But in a roadside bar on the Outside, an unlikely group of revolutionaries is about to demand a new story.
Starring Tony-nominee Jeannette Bayardelle and a Broadway and NYC theatre cast. Metra weaves ancient myth, transformative magic, and memorable music to tell the story of a dangerous climate future, and the fight for the world we deserve.
Written and created by The Hartfords.

SPEAKER_14Speaking to you in a way you humans will understand. Welcome, welcome. From the three of us. Tree nymphs. Magical beings who live in trees. Tree nymphs from around the world.
SPEAKER_08Each of us from our own ancient myth systems.
SPEAKER_14Each of us from our own far-flung continents. Yet, what do these different myth systems from far flung continents all share? Tree nymphs. Three nymphs. Coincidence? No. No. Maybe we're not as mythy as you think we are. And it's no coincidence that we three tree nymphs are here to present to you with assistance from this musician. A human being musician. Um you can call me Max. Okay, Max! And we singing tree nymphs are here to present to you the amazing story of how we and all of creation ended up where we are now. A world too damn hot. But most importantly, it's the story of how we choose to go forward. Tethered to old stories and myths that no longer serve us. Or cutting those old shackles for new stories. Better stories. Change the myth! Change the world! So, yeah, now something that as tree nymphs we never imagined we'd ever say. We tree nymphs present to you the scripted serial audio podcast of Metra, a climate revolution with songs. Hit it, Max!
SPEAKER_04One, two, three, woe ho! Woo! We are nymphs who live in trees, just like the handmaidens who serve the goddess series, you know. Mythology. Like of its metamorphases, tonight we're here to tell you the story, the story of Metra, who also is Cory. You'll get to meet Sam and the Global Nose, whom we call Aggie. We can we're close.
SPEAKER_03Aggie Yelboo! Sister names Yo got a roo doo!
SPEAKER_04Whoa! Tonight we're going to start at the end.
SPEAKER_14Well, not really the end. Cause then there's more. Then there's what we call an epilogue.
SPEAKER_04And a whole lot comes before.
SPEAKER_14So for now, let's say we're starting at the end. Now, you may be asking yourself, did Ovid ever start at the end? No, he did not. That's very clear. He told the plot. From there to here.
SPEAKER_04No, Ovid never started at the end. With Linearity, he said the tale he had to tell. But Ovid is dead, so what the hell? So let the old story end, let a better story start on you. Cause the old story's friends are killing me at you. So listen, all you boys and girls. Change them you can change that.
SPEAKER_05How about you? It all led to here. Let the story begin.
SPEAKER_04And now we jump real fast to the past.
SPEAKER_15Back from the year 2045. We're not very 2045. We're still not very 2025.
SPEAKER_16Oh, we're there. Twenty fifteen is where we arrive, so stop. Stop right here, right now.
SPEAKER_06Just head back to the hotel. Just go back to sleep and just pretend I am not having a nervous.
SPEAKER_13What's going on? All in due time, Corey.
SPEAKER_06You sound like someone I know. Yes. Oh my God. You sound like my mom.
SPEAKER_13I chose a human voice that would hopefully put you at ease, Corey.
SPEAKER_06Is that working? Wait, wait, wait. How do you know my name?
SPEAKER_13Your eyes are gonna be a dressing. Good. I am a glafano. Aglaphanos. I am a dreamer. You knew my sister Hama.
SPEAKER_06You're a dream. A dreamer. With the voice of my mom. Yeah, right. I'm dreaming. Hama was murdered.
SPEAKER_13Definitely a dream by your father, the king. King Eresatha. Ah, yes. You recognize the name, a glimmer, but you will soon remember it all. You'll remember the life you lived thousands of years ago when you were Metra. Metra. You've lived many lives since then. And all those past lives have allowed you to see the world from many different eyes, many different perspectives. Your particular experience in this, your most recent incarnation has allowed you to understand the myths that keep power flowing in one direction towards the evil kings at Davos. You saw the lies that realm is built on. But how do you know about what happened in Davos? Now you have the necessary tools. And I need you for what an apocalypse is upon us. One that is destroying the natural order, one that is destroying my beloved trees. We can't stop much of the carnage that is coming. But perhaps we can still fend off a total annihilation.
SPEAKER_06Total annihilation. Okay. Hold on together, Corey.
SPEAKER_13First off, a dream. We will need the money you have hidden in those Swiss and Cayman Island bank accounts.
SPEAKER_07Stupid fucking dream.
SPEAKER_13You will stay here with me. It is time you learn everything about you. I will lead you through each of your past lives until you are one with all your roots all the way back to Metro so we both can finally connect to the magic from our original myth.
SPEAKER_07Our math.
SPEAKER_13Yes.
SPEAKER_07I hate to tell you this, but myths are really sort of by definition that aren't real.
SPEAKER_13Myths are as real as we need them to be. Prepare yourself. For what? I need to make your consciousness.
SPEAKER_07Really?
SPEAKER_13While I am leading you through all your lives back to Metra, I will also simultaneously train you to enter into the magic from our shared original myth and teach you how to share your magic with your fellow rebels.
SPEAKER_06And if there are rebels, then that means there must be a revolution.
SPEAKER_13Yes. And you will lead it. I will lead it. You feel it, don't you? You know it's true. I see you, Cory. I always have. I will now split your consciousness. Wait, what? What does that mean? Time as you grasp it will move differently. By what number do you humans mark this year?
SPEAKER_062015.
SPEAKER_132015. Adorable. As your roots reconnect, time will move for you as it does for me.
SPEAKER_06How?
SPEAKER_13Like this.
SPEAKER_05Time passes.
SPEAKER_01Dozens of tornadoes swept through Texas and Oklahoma yesterday, with possibly hundreds dead and thousands left homeless.
SPEAKER_03Then one day you say, Hey, how did I get here?
SPEAKER_052030.
SPEAKER_09And this is how strong this wind is. One day before landfall, the mega hurricane upper with expected storm surges of up to 40 feet. Unheard of storm surges. Let's get those cameras turned around. You can see, you can see Miami is a coast town.
SPEAKER_02A crash. Some during some burn. Some green.
SPEAKER_01Today, the federal government declared a state of national emergency and martial law, suspending upcoming elections for the first time in our nation's history.
SPEAKER_03So all right. So we plot, we plan, we constant.
